H.R. Cole's Biography

A Pennsylvania native, H.R. Cole grew up immersed in fantasy books and completed her first novel (handwritten) when she was twelve.
Her love of reading and writing fantasy continued through her career in the veterinary field where she managed a four-doctor hospital, and later set her up for a successful writing career in medical journalism under the pen name Hope Gillette.
In her creative writing, Cole addresses common inner dialogues related to self-worth and insecurity. She loves to forge her characters through hardship while representing inner growth in a realistic and relatable way. Her greatest hope is that readers will feel empowered and heard as they journey with their favorite characters, taking in life lessons.
In addition to her journalism career, Cole’s middle grade novel was published in 2012, and several of her short stories have been included in monthly webzines. Her short story “The Toll” received an honorable mention in the 78th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition.
Cole’s favorite books are “Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer, “Watership Down” by Richard Adams, and “The Chalice and the Blade” by Glenna McReynolds.
Her favorite read-anything-they-write author is Patricia McKillip.
Cole lives in the mountains of Upstate New York with her husband, dogs, and cats. When not writing, she enjoys distance running, hiking, and drinking too much coffee.
A competitive traditional archer, Cole has competed in world-level events over the past two decades. She always brings a book to all her archery competitions to pass the time.
